Work from home in a garden office

Imagine having a dedicated workspace in your back garden. A building that combines home comfort with a professional office. A place that provides the convenience of working from home but also enables you to keep work at arm's length.

Why choose a garden office?

  • Enhanced Productivity: Remove household distractions and create a peaceful environment where you can focus.
  • Work-Life Balance: Having a dedicated office in your garden makes it easier to set working hours and ‘go home’.
  • Improved Health: Working from the kitchen table is not good for you. A garden office can be designed ergonomically.
  • Tailored to Your Needs: Where do you thrive? A sleek modern office or a cosy retreat? A garden office can be customised to fit your style and work requirements. Because it’s a separate space, it doesn’t have to reflect the décor or ambience of your home.

Designing your garden office

David Mathews, owner of Inside Out Garden Rooms, provides his top considerations when designing a garden office

  • Ensure your garden office is large enough and the design fits the purpose.
  • Are doors and windows positioned to facilitate office equipment, furniture and storage? Does their position prevent direct sunlight from reflecting on a computer screen? Is there a particular view of your garden you would like to enjoy whilst sitting at your desk?
  • Consider installing a kitchen and toilet in your garden office to separate work from home completely. No more trips into the house to make a cuppa!
  • If your garden office includes a toilet or a kitchen area, does the proposed location have easy access to your foul water drainage system?
  • Consider the number and position of sockets, lights and internet connection. Don’t underestimate!
  • Will you need planning and/or building control consent? Inside Out Garden Rooms can advise you on this and manage applications when required.

Bespoke or Off-the-Shelf

Inside Out Garden Rooms has been designing and building bespoke garden rooms since 2009.

We have now taken this experience and expertise and designed a range of off-the-shelf rooms perfectly suited as home garden offices. These garden rooms come with high levels of insulation and can be re-located – a requirement imposed by HMRC if you intend to use your room as an office and to offset the cost against future profits.

With several sizes in each range and numerous options and upgrades, you will find a superior garden office room perfect for your needs.
